Students getting to know each other
  1. No sweat: Our RAs are ready to do all the heavy lifting, including your fridge and TV. You just show up and settle in!
  2. Christ at the center: Worshiping in the Chapel of the Christ is always amazing. The Saturday morning devotion with your new classmates—and maybe your parents one last time before they head home—will be really meaningful. The Monday morning opening service with the entire campus family will be one you won’t forget!
  3. Your roommate is part of the adventure: If having a roommate is new for you, it might feel weird. But don’t worry—your roommate might become your new best friend or simply someone you peacefully share a room with. Either way is okay.
  4. New faces everywhere: Meeting a lot of new people all at once can be hard. You won’t remember every name. Conversations may suddenly stall. You might say the wrong thing. It’s all right. Everyone else feels the same excitement and nerves!
  5. Be kind to your family. This weekend is hard for them too. Take the photos. Enjoy the hugs. Let them fuss over you. If the tears come, let them!
  6. You will find your people. You might find your crew, your besties, today. Or you might not find them until you start basketball season or musical practice or a group project in class. They’re out there. Give it time.
  7. If you’re not sure: Not sure being a called worker is the right path for you? Some of your classmates aren’t sure either. While you’re figuring it out, just enjoy the MLC experience. God can use all of it to shape you for your future.
  8. You belong here. There is not one MLC student “type.” Though our students share the same faith and the same mission, God didn’t make them all with the same cookie cutter. Each one has different gifts and interests and personalities. So just be yourself. And know that you are loved and chosen—and you belong.
  9. Grace lives here. Our students are all preparing to serve a perfect Savior, but they’re not perfect. They falter and fail, make mistakes, commit sins. You will too. But here we ask for forgiveness, we forgive one another, and we start again. That’s life together under the cross.
  10. Get ready to surprise yourself. You may arrive thinking you know who you are—the athlete, the musician, the leader, the smart one, the quiet one. But college has a way of stretching you. Some parts of your identity will grow stronger, others will fade, and brand-new gifts may emerge. Trust God’s plan and enjoy the journey. It starts today!
