1. Pick your day: Come Thursday or Friday. The student and parent sessions are the same each day. If you’d rather wait until Friday, that’s fine! If you want a little more time to enjoy our campus and the New Ulm area, come Thursday.
  1. Enjoy three special family events: Not required but highly encouraged!
  • Friday, 5-7 pm: Family Picnic (complimentary – dining hall)
  • Friday, 7:30-10 pm: Parent/Faculty Reception (Best Western)
  • Saturday, 10 am: Special Devotion (just before you say goodbye – Chapel)
  1. Share a meal with your student in the dining hall: Your student can use their Fresh X app. They can swipe the app four times a day—usually for three square meals and then “Late Nite.” Guest prices for you:
  • Breakfast $8
  • Lunch & Dinner $12
  1. Let us do the heavy lifting: Our RAs will even carry your student’s fridge and TV into their room so you can focus on getting them settled.
  1. Let your student take the lead: Orientation is about giving students the confidence to start college strong. They can take charge of getting you where you need to be!
  1. Make one last shopping trip: Stock your student’s fridge or pick up other dorm essentials at Walmart or any of New Ulm’s grocery stores. You’ll have time!
  1. Capture the moment! Take a family photo at one of the campus signs, the lookout, or one of the statues: Jesus, Luther, or the Sprinter.
  1. Expect a few emotions: Your student is meeting new people and stepping into a whole new world. It’s a lot. Prepare for a little awkwardness or crabbiness. It’s okay! We’re human.
  1. Tears are welcome here. Go ahead and cry. You’ll see both student and parent tears over the weekend. Totally normal!
  1. Goodbye and God Bless: After the Saturday morning devotion, it’s time for hugs and goodbyes. It might be hard to leave, but it’s time for your students to start the adventure with their MLC family. You can relax, knowing your student is in good hands and they’re going to do great!
