  • Scholarships are listed in Net Partner by source or name. They will be credited directly to your account each semester and will appear as credits on your billing statement.
  • Institutional grants, government grants, and your eligibility for certain loans are based on your family’s Expected Family Contribution (EFC), which is determined by completing the FAFSA.

Need-Based Grants

Martin Luther College offers grants to students who demonstrate financial eligibility by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Grant aid includes: Federal Pell Grant, Federal Supplemental Education Opportunity Grant (SEOG), Minnesota State Grant, and MLC Grant. Grants do not need to be repaid. Grants are awarded to students who demonstrate financial eligibility based on information provided on the FAFSA.

Pell Grants are funded by the federal government. Pell Grants are awarded based on a standardized federal formula that determines eligiblity according to information provided on the FAFSA.

  • Recipients must complete the FAFSA each year to be considered for pell grant funding.
  • To receive the full amount of Pell Grant aid, a student must be enrolled full-time (at least 12 credits per semester).

Minnesota State Grants are awarded to Minnesota residents who graduated from a Minnesota high school and who demonstrate financial need.

  • Recipients must complete the FAFSA and the MLC Financial Aid Application each year to be considered for state grant funding – no later than the end of the academic year.
  • To receive the full amount of State Grant aid, a student must be enrolled full-time for at least 15 credits per term.
  • MN State Grant amounts will be recalculated after the 10-day drop/add period. If your enrollment has dropped from 15 credits, your grant amount will be reduced.

Federal Supplemental Education Opportunity Grants (FSEOG) are awarded to students with the highest need, generally a student who is Pell eligible.

  • MLC selects the recipients of this federal funding based on the information provided on the FAFSA.
  • Maximum award amounts are $1000.
  • The  number of awards provided is dependent on federal funding available for the academic year.

MLC Grants are awarded to students who demonstrate financial need.

  • Students must complete the FAFSA each year to be considered.
  • Students must be enrolled full-time (at least 12 credits) to receive grants.
  • MLC Grant amounts could change in subsequent years based on a change to your Expected Family Contribution (EFC) from the FAFSA.

In order to retain financial aid eligibility, students must maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP). The full SAP policy can be reviewed on the financial aid eligibilty webpage.

Military Benefits

Veterans and Active Duty

MLC Bachelor Degree programs are approved by the Minnesota State Approving Agency, GoArmyEd and the Department of Veteran’s Affairs to provide military benefits to qualifying students.   • Per MLC’s DoDMoU, the cost per credit for military members is calculated using the following formula:
    • Annual tuition rate (AT) times number of years to obtain a degree (4) = total cost of degree (TC)
    • (TC) divided by number of credits necessary to obtain a degree (130) = calculated cost per credit (CCpC)
      • Example using 21-22 AY costs:  $16,910 x 4 = $67,640.  $67,640 / 130 = $520.31

Scholarships

Students do not need to apply for MLC Merit Scholarships. These are awarded each year based on the GPA of each student.

MLC Scholarships are added as part of the financial aid award. Merit scholarships are in addition to any need-based aid. Other scholarships that students receive from outside sources are likewise considered financial aid.

Loans

Federal Direct Student Loans

The U.S. Department of Education offers Direct Unsubsidized Loans and Direct Subsidized Loans (to eligible students) to help cover the costs of college. Students must complete a FAFSA in order to borrow these low-interest loans. There are loan limits on the available amounts students can utilize  each year.
