MLC Merit Scholarship Opportunities
WE REVIEW ELIGIBILITY FOR EVERY STUDENT EACH YEAR.
Students that did not initially receive any merit aid would still be eligible in future academic years. Merit scholarships will be added as part of the financial aid award. To see the expanded range and larger amounts, please refer to the associated Merit Scholarships image on this page!
Incoming (traditional) first-year students will be considered for merit scholarships based on their cumulative high school GPA or ACT score. Transfer students and returning MLC students will be considered for merit scholarships based on their cumulative college GPA.
2024-2025 MLC Scholarship Opportunities
Below are the scholarship opportunities for enrolled students during the 2024-2025 academic year. Please note the specific deadlines, qualifications, and application information. Scholarship reminders will be posted on Portal and the MLC Direction Facebook page.
Congregational Partner Grant Program
Congregations can encourage and support their members who are preparing for the public ministry by participating in the Congregational Partner Grant Program (CPGP). The congregation awards a grant to any undergraduate student enrolled at MLC and MLC will match that grant up to $1600 per student in 2025-2026!
Military, Federal, State and Specialty Scholarships
- Service to God and Country Scholarship
- Total estimated funding for 2024-2025: $10,000 divided between eligible recipients based on need.
- Requirements: Previous or current military service with any branch of the armed forces. Students whose parent has served in the armed forces are also eligible for scholarship funds. Eligible recipients must have demonstrated financial need (FAFSA form on file).

- Lutheran Military Support Group (LMSG) Scholarship
- Estimated amount: $1000 per school year/$500 per completed semester
- Requirements: Active duty or prior service WELS and ELS Service Members pursuing public ministry.

- Children of Fallen Heroes Scholarship
- Public Safety Officer’s Survivor Grant
- Minnesota Fostering Independence Grant
- For individuals that were in the MN foster care system
- Disabled American Veterans of Minnesota Endowed Scholarship
- You do not need to be a disabled veteran, this is for veterans attending college in Minnesota.

Scholarships are available through many different companies and organizations. Spending some time to search for funds and applying to scholarships can be time consuming, but it can also help you get FREE MONEY for your educational costs.
Searching for scholarships is free. If a website requests money to perform a search, do not use that website.
