MLC Administrative Council Highlight

auditoriumsAt a recent Administrative Council meeting, President Zarling reported that the Synodical Council approved several requested ministry plan (budget) adjustments at MLC. The approval ratifies the use of college reserve funds designated by our board to call a physical education professor and to accelerate the auditorium renovation project.

A call for the new faculty position will be extended along with calls for two replacement positions—a music professor and a theology professor—on Saturday, December 5.

Phases three and four of a six phase renovation will continue in our auditorium during the Christmas break with the repainting of the floor and the repair and reupholstering of the seats at a combined cost of approximately $150,000.

International Education Week Comes to MLC

internationalsA tea ceremony presented by Professor Tingting Schwartz was just one of many presentations and displays during International Education Week, informing students about other countries, study abroad options through International Studies Abroad, and global ministry opportunities through MLC Daylight International.

The week also featured an open house in the International Services Office, an international student poster fair, and delicious foods from China, the Caribbean, Korea, Canada, and Pakistan.

According to our director of international services, Professor Thomas Hunter, IEW is observed by colleges all over the world. “It promotes programs that prepare Americans for a global environment and attracts future leaders from abroad to study, learn, and exchange experiences in the United States.”

MLC’s purpose for IEW is similar, but the primary goal is different. “Our goal is to thank our heavenly Father for bringing ministry students from other countries to study at MLC,” Professor Hunter says, “and to explore the opportunities he has presented to us for using our talents and mission-minded spirit around the world.”

Focus on Ministry Weekends

focussDuring two Focus on Ministry weekends, about 300 high schoolers from all over the country were able to walk in MLC students’ shoes for a few days. They experienced campus life by going to classes, watching sports practices, staying in the dorms, and chatting with current students, faculty, and coaches.

“Going to chapel was cool,” said Mason Shambeau, “because you could definitely see how Christ-centered MLC is.” Josh Schoenfeld added, “I like the cafeteria!” Faith Otte said, “This whole weekend has been great, because it makes me so excited to go to school here!”

Some who made the trip are uncertain about their future schooling, but they still benefitted from the visit. “I’m indecisive about college right now,” said Jordyn Ulman. “But I’m definitely keeping MLC in mind. This trip has showed me MLC’s true purpose and how greatly future called workers here are motivated to spread the gospel.”
