Associate Director, Classroom, Lab and Media Support at Princeton University
As one of the senior managers in OIT Support Services, Rich’s department has responsibility for all classroom technology, broadcast, and academic special event support at Princeton University. He is a member of the Faculty Committee on Classrooms and Schedules (FCCS), the Academic and Administrative Managers Group (AAMG), and collaborates with the McGraw Center for Teaching and Learning on technology applications. He also represents Princeton as a participant in the 2016 MOR Leaders program.
He has served in a variety of administrative positions in his career, including as Director of Media Services at Wisconsin Lutheran College and as an ITC/Coordinator of Learning Spaces and Media Production at San Diego State University. He was also a show producer, Packers Game-day producer, and on-air news anchor for 620 WTMJ radio in Milwaukee, WI. He has K-12 and collegiate teaching experience, and enjoys working with faculty and students on developing media resources to enhance teaching and learning.
Dr. Bakken completed a PhD in Leadership Studies at the University of San Diego. His dissertation focused in higher education administration and student affairs, exploring the impact of native students attending western universities in Doha, Qatar. His research interests include informing administrators how students describe their learning experiences in Western university environments, strategies to meet their needs, and ways that technology can impact the process.
Dr. Bakken grew up in Crete, IL and in several other locations in WI, where he attended Illinois Lutheran High School and Onalaska Luther HS. He enjoys music technology and recording applications, reading, stamp collecting, and world travel.
