Daryl Hanneman serves as Professor of Special Education at MLC. Daryl worked as a licensed school psychologist, serving K-12 school districts near Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He also taught courses for paraeducators and facilitated a batterers’ education program for the Department of Corrections. Daryl has taught various courses for MLC during the summer sessions and currently serves on the Graduate Faculty.

Daryl grew up in Sanborn, Minnesota where he attended Zion Lutheran School until enrolling in Martin Luther Academy. After graduating from MLA, he enrolled in DMLC where he met his wife, Shirley. He taught grades 5-8 in a WELS school in western Minnesota along with his wife, who taught grades K-4.

After ten years in the classroom, Daryl began work as a school psychologist. He worked as a school psychologist for 25 years. His academic interests include interventions for struggling readers, assistive technology, and special education services. Daryl and Shirley have two daughters and three granddaughters. Traveling, gardening, photography, tinkering with technology, and trying to finish his first novel take up his spare time.
