Companion/Household Tasks
private party
My mother lives on her own in a townhouse in New Ulm only 1.5 miles from the college. She is 90 years young and still drives and takes care of most everything on her own (cooking, laundry, cleaning).
I visit her every week and speak with her every day on the phone, but I am in Minneapolis and cannot be there every day. My sister is there several times per week.
I am thinking that a student from the college who could visit with her and help with a few things would be a win for my mother and the student.
It could be as simple as stopping in to see her a few days a week. Having someone to look forward to seeing each day would mean a lot to my mother. With winter coming she will not get out as much so this could be a really big deal for her.
She is quite funny and tells great stories. My guess is that she will want to take care of the student more than she will want to be cared for.
Depending on what the student wants to do and the amount of time they have, we could add other things. Light house cleaning, grocery shopping, making lunch for both of them, driving her to the bank or post office (in my mother’s car). Based on the student, their time and availability my mother and the student can decide what works best for both of them.
I would pay what is reasonable and attractive to the student.
This could be a flexible opportunity as my mother’s schedule is entirely flexible.
