COURSE DESCRIPTION:

The Twenty-First Annual Summer Hebrew Institute

The Hebrew Institute is an upper-level course in biblical Hebrew for pastors with a strong interest and ability in Hebrew.

The 2026 course will focus on the rapid reading of Judges 1-9 in Hebrew. In these chapters, we will see how the dark period of the Judges started—a period when “everyone did as they saw fit” (Judg 21:25). We will rejoice to see how God graciously sent deliverers, and we will especially focus on Deborah and Gideon.

For an extra project, each participant will spend some time with an upper-level Hebrew research tool or teaching tool with which he was previously unacquainted. The Concordia Commentary on Judges 1-9 by Mark Braun is scheduled to be published in spring 2026. If desired, participants could work through Braun’s commentary in connection with the course.
