MLC is excited to offer a new pathway to support those who want to serve in the WELS public ministry as elementary school teachers. The Alternative Pathway to Professional Licensure Eligibility (APPLE) – Elementary Education is an online, competency-based program designed specifically for returning adult learners.
The majority of the courses are designed with flexibility in mind. The courses are designed to consider what learners already know and what knowledge or skill they need to develop. The courses are designed to allow learners to pace their learning to fit their schedules, so whether they can devote a short amount of time daily or engage in long study sessions once or twice a week, they are able to make progress in the courses they are enrolled in.
While the course expectations of the program are the same for all learners, each learner’s pathway is slightly individualized. Each learner’s previous coursework, professional experiences, and ability to devote time to their coursework are carefully considered by their faculty mentor to help guide the learner through the program.
Those who have not previously studied at MLC, Bethany, or WLC are able to complete the required Theology Minor courses as part of their APPLE course of study. The Theology courses are offered as 15-week-long classes with weekly interaction. Each learner’s faculty mentor will help them plan out when to take these courses if they are needed.
Individuals who would like to find out more about the program can complete the interest survey. A member of our team will contact you to discuss the program in greater detail and how this pathway may support you in serving as an elementary school teacher.
