Martin Luther College is pleased to announce that the Competency-Based Theology Education (CBTE) Minor has received approval from our accrediting body, the Higher Learning Commission, to offer this course of study.
The CBTE Minor is a year-long sequence of six courses. Learners enrolled in the program will complete two courses every fifteen weeks.

For the 2024-2025 academic year, we plan to offer three opportunities for learners to engage in the program.
- The first cohort of learners will begin their studies on September 1, 2024, and complete all of their courses for the CBTE Minor by August 20, 2025.
- The second cohort of learners will begin their studies on January 5, 2025, and complete all of their courses for the CBTE Minor by December 20, 2025.
- The third cohort of learners will begin their studies on May 1, 2025, and complete all of their courses for the CBTE Minor by April 25, 2026.
Completion of the CBTE Minor is the first step for returning adult learners who want to serve as teachers within our Lutheran Elementary Schools.
It is our hope and prayer that the Alternative Pathway to Professional Licensure Eligibility (APPLE) Elementary Education will be approved in time for learners to seamlessly matriculate into that course of study once they have completed the CBTE Minor.
