The repertoire of the wind band has an eclectic history. Being the youngest of all the large performing ensembles, much of the wind band’s early repertoire was transcribed from existing music libraries—typically the orchestra. Many of the core original works of the wind band date back one hundred years or more.
Contemporary compositions, on the other hand, are influenced by any number of genres, not the least of which is jazz. Please join the Martin Luther College Wind Symphony for “Something Old, Something New.” Music on the program takes inspiration from this familiar saying, reflecting the varied influences that have shaped the development of the wind band.
