SUMMARY
Martin Luther College (MLC) is searching for a Sports Information Director (SID) who is mission-driven and possesses a high-sports IQ to lead athletic communications for its NCAA Division III programs, promoting excellence in competition while supporting the formation of student-athletes for lives of Christian service. This role oversees statistics, website content, media relations, and livestream production, ensuring accurate, timely, and professional coverage of MLC athletics. The SID partners with athletic staff to support high-quality game day operations and a positive fan experience.
The ideal candidate is well-versed in collegiate athletics, is detail-oriented, organized, and dependable, with strong communication, writing, and editing skills, and a deep commitment to MLC’s mission and Athletic Department Philosophy. An individual with strong interest and knowledge across multiple sports will find this position rewarding and meaningful.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Compiles game statistics, game results, and season statistics for all sports.
- Writes and distributes game recaps, press releases, and athletic communications across digital and media platforms.
- Reports statistics and results to the conference, the NCAA, and media outlets.
- Works with coaches to develop official rosters, previews, season highlights, players of the week, and all-conference nominations.
- Utilizes social media platforms to promote MLC athletic teams and events.
- Maintains and updates the MLC athletic website pages on a regular basis.
- Organizes and oversees game livestreaming and replay for all applicable sports.
- Develops and manages a crew of student workers to keep statistics, announce, film games, and produce livestream productions.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
- A deep commitment to the mission and core values of WELS and MLC, and an ability to apply that commitment in the performance of daily responsibilities.
- At least three years of experience, or equivalent, in sports communication or related media work.
- Interest in and knowledge of collegiate athletics, with a high sports IQ.
Preferred:
- Preference may be given to an active member of the WELS or church body in fellowship with the WELS.
- A bachelor’s degree in sports communication, journalism, sports management, or a related field.
- Understanding and playing background in the sports offered at Martin Luther College.
- Experience supervising student workers and coordinating athletic events or media coverage.
- Experience with website management, social media platforms, and livestream or video production.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & BENEFITS
- This position is full-time, primarily on-site in office and athletic facilities, with irregular hours, such as early mornings, late evenings, weekends, and extended hours based on the needs of the department.
