SUMMARY

The Men’s Soccer Assistant Coach is a part-time position. This position provides coaching support for the Men’s Soccer Team and the Athletic Department. The position coordinates with the Athletic Director in establishing coaching procedures and compliance with NCAA coaching requirements.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The responsibilities and duties of the position shall include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Communicate effectively via phone, email and in-person.
  • Assist in planning and operational details of the team, including team organization, player selection, skill teaching and development, practice organization, game strategy, and in-game coaching.
  • Evaluate individual performance and provide leadership and instruction in areas of deficiency as required.
  • Participate in the evaluation of high school talent through high school visits, on-site game observations, film review and analysis.
  • Coach and run drills at daily practice.
  • Show and teach basic and advanced techniques to players and suggest improvement techniques.
  • Assist with activities that keep players healthy and strong, such as weight training, strength training,
    and nutritional advice.
  • Travel with the team on school provided vehicles for games and events.
  • Assist with film analysis.
  • Enforce, abide by, and assure that all players comply with MLC and NCAA Division III rules.
  • Work with and support the Head Coach and Athletics Director.
  • Assist with the development of the student athlete academically.
  • Conduct other job-related duties and functions as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

  • Ability to work irregular hours, such as early mornings, afternoons, evenings, weekends, and extended hours based on the needs of the department.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • A high school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required.
  • A Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical Education, Sports Management, Recreation, or another
    related degree is preferred.
  • Experience participating at a Division III college level is preferred.
  • Understanding and background of the sport is required.
  • Previous coaching, training, and/or supervisory experience is preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate, and talk or hear, walk, jog, run, sit, stand, twist, bend, kneel, move around, balance, coordinate, and reach with hands and arms. This individual is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel, manipulate objects, tools or controls, and give direction through communication or signals. This position requires frequent mobility with moderate to heavy physical exertion through walking, standing, running, biking, lifting or jogging for the entire workday. This individual must routinely be able to lift and/or move up to 45 pounds, and occasionally be able to lift and/or move up to 80 pounds. Manual dexterity and coordination are required for 10% of the work period while operating office-related equipment such as phones, computer, computer keyboard, mouse and similar office and classroom machines. The position requires vocal communication by means of the spoken word, and hearing is required to perceive information. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The noise level in the work environment fluctuates between low, to moderate to moderately high due to giving and receiving direction at loud levels, gymnasium acoustics and training room noise, if indoors. Individual has exposure to inclement weather, heat and cold. This environment is exposed to Martin Luther College exercise equipment and approved chemicals. Proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required. Travel and morning, afternoon, evening and weekend hours are necessary. This position is not authorized for telecommuting.

COMPENSATION

Salary is based on an 18-week NCAA fall sport season and the success of the team beyond the regular season. 2024-2025 Hired assistant coaches will receive $311.51 per week for the 18-week NCAA fall season. This is a 0.156 FTE (based on an average of 18-hours weekly for the season) part-time, exempt salaried non-benefit eligible position. This position begins on or around August 1 and ends on or around November 30. As the calendar year, academic year, and season fluctuates with start and stop dates, these dates are used as reference.
