RANGE: 19-week NCAA program, $5,800 for the program

SUMMARY

Martin Luther College (MLC) is seeking an enthusiastic and skilled Assistant Baseball Coach to support its NCAA Division III baseball program. This role fosters a competitive, Christ-centered environment, assisting the head coach and guiding student-athletes as they grow into leaders for public ministry.

An individual with strong baseball knowledge and a passion for teaching the game will have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on both the athletic and personal development of student-athletes.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work with and support the head baseball coach.
  • Coach and run drills at daily baseball practice.
  • Show and teach baseball fundamentals, techniques and strategy to players.
  • Use a fungo bat effectively to conduct fielding drills and other baseball practice activities.
  • Assist with film breakdown and analysis.
  • Support the physical, academic, and personal development of student-athletes.
  • Travel with the baseball team to games and events.
  • Uphold and ensure compliance with MLC, UMAC, and NCAA Division III rules.
  • Assist with non-traditional fall practices.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

  • A deep commitment to the mission and core values of WELS and MLC, and an ability to apply that commitment in the performance of daily responsibilities.
  • A high school diploma or GED.
  • Playing background and a strong understanding of baseball.
  • At least three years of coaching experience.

Preferred:

  • Preference may be given to an active member of the WELS or church body in fellowship with the WELS.
  • A bachelor’s degree in physical education, sports management, coaching, or a related field.
  • Experience participating or coaching at the NCAA Division III level.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Participate in physical activity on the field, such as walking, jogging, running, bending, twisting, reaching, hitting, throwing, and pitching.
  • Be able to lift and/or move up to 45 pounds regularly, and 80 pounds occasionally.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & BENEFITS

  • This position is part-time, primarily working in on-site and off-site athletic facilities, with travel and irregular hours, including early mornings, late nights, and weekends.
  • Exposure to varying weather conditions, noise, crowds, and athletic equipment.
