How to get a Driver’s License

A message from the MN Department of Motor Vehicles:

The Minnesota law allows a nonresident, with a valid home country driver’s license in immediate possession, to drive in Minnesota. An International Driving Permit (IDP) serves as a translation of the home country driver’s license and must be accompanied by the license. An IDP may be helpful, but is not required.

A nonresident with a license from another country can get a Minnesota license by presenting proper identification and passing a written and driving test. The license will be valid until the person’s authorization to remain in the U.S. ends.

If you intend to apply for Minnesota driver’s license, identification, or permit, please view these requirements. Information regarding the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) in New Ulm can be found here.
