Established in 2024, this scholarship recognizes the rich history of the Vetting and Frisque families in public ministry and always in service to their Lord. This scholarship is a way for the two families to support future called workers who seek to serve their Lord through public ministry.
Joyce (Vetting) Frisque was a 1959 Dr. Martin Luther High School graduate and a member of the Dr. Martin Luther College Class of 1963. Joyce was involved in the college short course designed to get teachers into schools quickly in order to fill multiple vacancies. Joyce taught for 35 ½ years in four different WELS elementary schools.
Don Frisque was a 1960 Northwestern Prep graduate and a member of the Northwestern College Class of 1964. He left after his junior year to teach for three years at Jerusalem Lutheran School in Milwaukee. He then taught English at Lakeside Lutheran High School until 1969. After obtaining a master’s degree in social work, he served for two years with Wisconsin Lutheran Child and Family Service (Christian Family Solutions) before becoming a school social worker in Shawano, Wisconsin, for 31 years.
Don and Joyce’s lives of service became the roots that continue to support a spreading family tree of ministry. Their children Deb Witte DMLC ’88 and Paul Frisque DMLC ’93 both serve in ministry. Other Vetting and Frisque family members have served, are currently serving, or will soon be serving in various capacities within the church. Without a doubt, more branches will grow.
Don passed away in November of 2024. Throughout his life, he faithfully used his God-given gifts in serving his Savior.
The scholarship is open to any student who has completed three semesters and who shows financial need.
