The Verna M. Witt Scholarship was established in 2024 by her family.
Verna (nee Meyer) Witt (1928-2019) was a DMLC student for just one year before taking an emergency call to serve as an elementary teacher at Grace Lutheran School in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. She faithfully taught there for 37 years. God used Verna to touch and shape the lives of hundreds of children as she shared the life-giving Word and demonstrated the loving care of our Savior. As a DMLC supervising teacher, Verna also had a lasting influence on the student teachers she mentored.
In her retirement years, Verna continued to serve the Lord and support Lutheran education. She volunteered at Grace Lutheran in the reading program and hosted student teachers in her home.
This scholarship honors Verna’s faithful, selfless example of service to the Lord and the precious souls entrusted to a teacher’s care. The Witt family members pray that God will richly bless the recipients in both personal ways and in their lives of service.
This scholarship will be awarded to MLC students who are majoring in elementary education, have completed at least one year of college with a GPA of 3.3 or better, and demonstrate a financial need.
