This scholarship was established in 2019 by Daniel and Frieda Carow.
Daniel (1937- ) and Frieda (1936- ) Carow were married in 1959 and were blessed with four sons—Bruce, Dennis, David, and Kenneth—as well as 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. The Carows belonged to several congregations as Dan’s work with Thrivent Financial (formerly Aid Association for Lutherans) took them to different cities. Both volunteered many, many hours over the years, Frieda doing church and school secretarial work and serving on the Lutheran Women’s Missionary Society, and Dan serving on the WELS Boards for Home and World Missions, on WELS ad hoc committees, and in various congregational offices. Both Dan and Frieda worked on Builders for Christ projects, and Dan served on the WELS Kingdom Workers Board of Directors for many years.
The Carows love their Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and are grateful for the parental direction and Christian education they received from their parents, Edward Gottlieb & Minnie Schlamp Carow, and Albert August Carl & Lillie Clara Anna Rakow.
They are also thankful for the pastors who have shared the gospel with them over the years. Noting the apostle Paul’s instruction of the young pastor Timothy, they said, “The faithful teaching of Paul to Timothy continues at Martin Luther College and Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary. We have benefited from this faithful teaching through the ministers that have been called by God to us at our Lutheran congregations. We thank God for that blessing and want to provide support to preseminary students at MLC and seminary students at WLS so others will have a similar blessing.”
Carow Scholarship winners are upperclassmen in the preseminary program who have an aptitude and interest in outreach, and who demonstrate financial need.
