The Spanish Immersion – Preseminary Scholarship was established in 2024 to help support MLC students who are studying Spanish in preparation to serve among Spanish-speaking communities.
As the donor stated, “Revelation 14:6 reminds us that it is God’s will to proclaim the gospel to ‘every nation, tribe, language, and people.’ God, in his wisdom, has brought many Spanish-speaking people to our country. Spanish is by far the dominant language in the Western hemisphere. The success our WELS One Latin Team is experiencing through Academia Cristo shows that Spanish-speaking people are hungry for the gospel. To reach these people, it is important that we train as many pastors as possible to become fluent in the Spanish language.”
Achieving the level of proficiency necessary for ministry in Spanish requires years of study and at least one immersion experience. With this in mind, Martin Luther College offers preseminary men the option to earn a Spanish minor that requires an immersion program and advanced-level courses. The donor established this fund to help alleviate some of the cost of the immersion program and to encourage more preseminary men to study Spanish.
The donor continues, “Our prayer is that those who have a heart for Spanish ministry will contribute to this scholarship.”
Recipients of this scholarship are preseminary students who are pursuing a Spanish minor and are registered for a Spanish immersion course involving travel. It can only be awarded once per student. Available scholarship money will be divided equally among all those who qualify.
