This scholarship endowment fund was initiated in 2015 by Earl and Elnor Reichel as an estate gift. Funding is testamentary.
Earl and Elnor have been active members of Our Redeemer-Madison, Wisconsin, since 1956.
Elnor has offered secretarial assistance for many years and has served as a volunteer braillist, first using the difficult punch-machine before switching to the computer in later years. She brailled the Northwestern Lutheran (predecessor of Forward in Christ) and many other books and publications.
Earl has served as a Sunday school superintendent and teacher, and a member of church councils and building committees. He also served on Wisconsin Lutheran College’s first Board of Regents from 1973 to 1978.
“We desire to support, acknowledge, encourage, and promote the education of students who are faithful in academic studies,” they said. Realizing that working many hours to finance an education can sometimes jeopardize students’ coursework, they hope that this monetary assistance will lighten students’ financial burdens and free up additional time for study.
Income from this fund is distributed to MLC education majors who demonstrate financial need.
