This scholarship endowment was established in 2023 by Lynne D. Drouillard in honor of her parents, George Benedict (1918-2000) and Mildred Benedict (1918-2005).
George and Mildred were married for more than 54 years. They were members of Arlington Avenue Lutheran Church in Toledo, Ohio, where Mildred served as a Sunday school teacher and George served on the Vestry.
George also served his country as a soldier in World War II, where he received three Purple Hearts and two Silver Stars.
“I am grateful for the contribution my mom and dad made in my life,” Lynne says. “As a single mother, thanks to my mom and dad, I was able to complete a master’s degree in education.”
To honor and thank her parents for their love and support, Lynne established this endowment to financially support young women who are pursuing a degree in elementary education at MLC.
Scholarship recipients are MLC women who are elementary education majors and who demonstrate financial need.
