This scholarship was established in 2024 by Rosemary Liggett, the wife of Reverend James David (Dave) Liggett Jr. A 1972 graduate of Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary, Pastor Liggett devoted the next 40 years to serving his Lord. He was the parish pastor for St. Matthew-Stoddard WI and St. John-Genoa WI. He then served in Minnesota at St. John-Sleepy Eye and St. Paul-North Mankato before God called him to be a WELS Christian giving counselor. His final service was as director of the synod’s Ministry of Christian Giving.
The Liggetts were blessed with a large and loving family. Dave and Rosie were married on August 21, 1971, and celebrated their 50th anniversary with all their children and grandchildren in 2021. Dave instilled a passion for faith, love, and adventure in his family, raising his children to walk with Christ.
Pastor Liggett was dedicated to serving the Lord and passionate about supporting the synod and its schools while here on earth. He was blessed to receive financial aid that supported his Christian education.
With that passion as the foundation, Rosie and her family want to share that blessing with others at Martin Luther College through this scholarship.
Income from the Rev. J. D. Liggett Endowment Fund is distributed to students who demonstrate financial need.
