What is the show about?

Grow alongside Louis May Alcott’s little pilgrims as they wrestle with their inner vanities and seek contentment and joy in a simple life well-lived. The March sisters—Jo, Meg, Amy, and Beth—are poor in material comforts but rich in imagination, home life, and spiritual depth. In her book, Little Women, Alcott invites us into their warm, nostalgic home where we battle imaginary villains with Jo, witness the foibles of Meg’s early married life, struggle with Amy as she learns to care more for virtue than vanity, and share in Beth’s tears as she embraces her unique story. Little Women: The Broadway Musical captures the charm of this tender family, focusing on the story of Jo. As the oldest, she is the captain of this merry band of childhood adventurers, but as her sisters and friends grow and change around her, she clings tightly to her childhood dreams. Will she discover her true path? Experience the warmth and joy of this beloved story, complete with tender moments, dramatic swordplay, and captivating music that will transport you and encourage you in your own pilgrimage home.

For additional questions, feel free to contact your Forum Board or Forum faculty advisor Mrs. Thompson (thompscm@mlc-wels.edu).

When will the auditions be?

Auditions will take place Tuesday and Wednesday, September 2nd and 3rd.

How do I prepare for auditions?

The best way to prepare for auditions is to familiarize yourself with the world of the play. For “Little Women,” this means watching the musical and reading Louisa May Alcott’s original book (Audible options as well). There is so much depth to the novel that is lost when adapting it to the stage or film. We want to bring that depth to our portrayals of these characters, and we need the book to do that. As you read, reflect upon their world, how they are described, what is important to them, and what their struggles are throughout the story.

We are looking to cast strong, flexible actors who can play double roles (e.g., Amy is also a troll and Laurie is also Rodrigo), and work as an ensemble. Our production will also feature a dance ensemble (3 men and 3 women) with original choreography by Samarah Forster (with Flo Dance Company) and MLC choreographer Lindsay Hatton. Dancers do not need to be singers for this production, but they will be performing a variety of dance numbers (i.e., contemporary, ballroom, roller skating, and a medley of Civil War-era dances) throughout.

Audition packets and additional details will be available online later in August. Please mark your calendars for our informational meeting on Wednesday, August 27th. Happy reading!

UPCOMING PRODUCTION:

I Have a Bad Feeling About This(mas)

When is the show?

December 6th, 7:30 PM; December 7th, 2:00 PM

What is the show about?

Join us for an unforgettable evening filled with mayhem, mistletoe, and sketch comedy! This year’s one-acts take you on a whirlwind adventure through the unexpected and absurd realms of speed dating and holiday pandemonium, featuring outrageous characters in hilariously unpredictable situations. Ever wonder how awkward speed dating can get? In Speed Dating and Light Sabers, Kamron Klitgaard cranks up the absurdity, introducing a cast of off-the-wall characters that will leave you in stitches. And it doesn’t stop there! Dive into the festive chaos with Don Zolidis’ Seven Ways to Survive the Holidays, an entertaining romp through navigating the frenzy of the holiday season. From embarrassing family photo shoots to the madness of holiday travel, Zolidis satirizes the relatable–and often ridiculous–pitfalls we encounter. This comical night of sketch comedy promises to deliver a good time and endless laughs!

Interested in learning more about directing?

Forum one-acts provide interested students a chance to direct their peers in short, comedic pieces while being mentored in the directing process by our faculty advisor, Christine Thompson. This allows students to gain experience and confidence in the directing process without extensive time commitments. If interested in learning more, feel free to contact your Forum Board or Forum faculty advisor Mrs. Thompson (thompscm@mlc-wels.edu) for additional details.
