Fiddler on the Roof

Fiddler on the Roof, the award-winning tale of Tevye the Dairyman and his family’s struggles in a changing Russia, is a true musical theatre tradition. Set in the little village of Anatevka, the story centers on Tevye, a poor milkman, and his five daughters. With the help of a colorful and tight-knit Jewish community, Tevye tries to protect his daughters and instill them with traditional values in the face of changing social norms and the growing complications of Czarist Russia. Rich in historical detail, Fiddler on the Roof‘s universal theme of tradition cuts across a variety of barriers, touching audiences with its humor, warmth, and honesty.

A Story in Every Breath

Consider for a moment that every breath you take in contains words spoken by someone else. the words of someone else’s story. This year’s pair of one-acts tells two such stories in “Booby Trap” and “Antigone Now.” In Ed Monk’s “Booby Trap,” an American soldier sits in a combat zone sometime in the near future, trapped by a land mine. As he waits to see what will happen to him, scenes from his past, present, and future unfold around him. In the midst of a bombed-out city still feeling the aftershocks of war, the rebellious and intense Antigone defies her uncle to bury her disgraced brother. Melissa Cooper’s “Antigone Now,” a contemporary response to Sophocles’ original myth, brings powerful, modern prose to this ancient and universal story. We hope you will join us to experience A Story in Every Breath.

Ask Any Girl

Meg Wheeler feels stifled in her small hometown where she’s just graduated from college. So Meg comes to New York intent on enlarging her horizon—and by that she means finding a husband. She moves into a boarding house in Manhattan that’s filled with attractive girls, most of them just as eager as Meg to find the ideal man. Meg has a unique ability to invent plausible statistics. However, when Meg tries her homemade statistics on the mathematically inclined Miles Doughton, head of an advertising firm, the system fails. However, Meg finds herself fascinated by Miles’ younger brother Evan, so Miles decides to give her a hand in snaring Evan. Join us to find out if things go according to plan in Winifred Wolfe’s Ask Any Girl.

Once Upon a Crime: The Trial of Goldilocks

Will justice be served in this hilarious fairy-tale courtroom play packed with characters we all know and love? It’s up to your audience, which serves as the jury and determines how the play ends! Goldilocks is the defendant, on trial for breaking and entering. The plaintiffs are—you guessed it—the three bears. As their lawyers Henny Penny and Tom Thumb go toe-to-toe hoping to prove their respective clients’ cases, other fairy tale characters are called to testify as witnesses, including Hansel and Gretel, Jack and Cow, and Granny. Even the Big Bad Wolf takes the stand, but can any of these witnesses be trusted themselves? Is Goldilocks guilty or innocent? With multiple endings to cover each possible outcome, YOU get to decide her ultimate fate, so don’t miss Once Upon a Crime: The Trial of Goldilocks!
