New Ulm — The Summit Avenue Chamber Music Series presents Peter McGuire and Friends on Sunday, March 26 at 3:00pm at the Chapel of the Christ on the campus of Martin Luther College in New Ulm.
Pre-Concert Talk by Prof. Larry Czer at 2:45pm
A native of Minnesota, Peter McGuire has performed in some of the finest orchestras in the world. He was a member of the Minnesota Orchestra from 2003 to 2012 before moving to Switzerland where he served as Second Concertmaster with the Tonhalle Orchester-Zürich for three years. While in Switzerland, he also performed in other European orchestras. Currently, he is Principal Second Violinist with the Minnesota Orchestra.
The concert also includes his brother, violinist Colin McGuire and friends, pianist Bethel Balge, violist Kenneth Freed, cellist Sharon Mautner-Rodgers, and double-bassist Rolf Erdahl for an afternoon of chamber music by Franz Schubert. The program includes the string quartet “Death and the Maiden”, a pillar of string quartet music. Written in 1824 after the composer suffered a life-threatening illness, it is Schubert’s testament to death. The program concludes with another anchor of chamber music, the Trout Piano Quintet, named after a song Schubert wrote entitled “The Trout”.
Tickets may be purchased at the door, on the day of the concert. For more information, visit www.summitavenuemusic.com.
