Martin Luther College is owned and operated by the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS). Formed from an amalgamation of Dr. Martin Luther College (founded in 1884) and Northwestern College (founded in 1865), Martin Luther College opened its doors to the next generation of church workers in 1995.
Martin Luther College is the WELS College of Ministry and exists solely to train future pastors, teachers, and staff ministers for the public ministry in the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod. Martin Luther College has over 80 faculty members who are not only spiritually mature Christians and experts in their fields, but they have also had real parish and school experience.
Martin Luther College is a 50-acre campus is located on a beautiful wooded hill overlooking the city of New Ulm, Minnesota. The campus includes four residence halls; an academic center; a library and media center; computer labs; a student union with cafeteria, gym, and fitness center; a chapel/auditorium; two music halls with practice rooms; and football, tennis, soccer, softball, and baseball facilities.
One major goal of Martin Luther College is to reduce student tuition debt. The main goal is to reduce the average graduating students total debt to no more than 50% of the base starting salary for a called worker. As Martin Luther College continues to discover creative ways to reduce student debt, while also partnering with the students, their families, and maximizing all grants, scholarships, and financial aid, accomplishing this goal will reduce the financial stress on our students so they can focus on the work they have been called to do.
In addition to the trying to reduce student debt, Martin Luther College has made numerous improvements to our campus. All of the improvements are vitally important but two note worthy additions are worth explaining in further detail.
First, the Fishers of Men statue helps our students to visualize the love Christ has for us and to be a continual remainder of our goal to serve Him by sharing his saving Gospel message. The Fishers of Men statue was dedicated on May 05, 2021 and is now a permanent addition to the MLC campus. What a blessing our current and future students will enjoy while they train to be Christ’s disciples.
The second major addition to Martin Luther College is the Betty Field House Athletic Center. The Betty Field House Athletic Center is located at the MLC Athletic Field Complex west of the main campus, near the soccer and baseball fields. This 36,000-square-foot indoor turfed facility will feature large practice areas, baseball/softball batting cages, golf simulators, and locker rooms. The Betty Field House will specifically support a year-round PE curriculum, enable all spring sports to practice regularly, provide additional team locker rooms, allow for additional intramural offerings, provide opportunities for health and wellness, create community connections, and decrease off-campus facility rental fees.
These two additions will forever change the experience our students have while attending Martin Luther College. Thanks be to God for moving the hearts of the generous donors who helped make these additions a reality.
