Mission Statement

Foreign Language courses at Martin Luther College develop skills and provide opportunities for students, appropriate to their course of study, to work in German, Greek, Hebrew, Latin, Mandarin, and Spanish and to do theological work at Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary and in their future ministries.

In order to carry out this mission, MLC offers both Biblical and Non-Biblical foreign language courses.

Pre-seminary students must complete Biblical language requirements as well as one of five non-biblical language options:

  • German Option
  • Latin Option
  • Confessional Languages Option: German and Latin
  • Spanish Option
  • Validation of another living language

MLC offers both a major and minor in Spanish.

MLC offers a minor in Mandarin and German

Placement in a non-biblical language course begins with a placement exam. All language courses are open to all students who meet the prerequisites and can fit them into their program.
