DESCRIPTION:Terry Steinbach\, a three-time All Star and World Series champion\, grew up in New Ulm and attended St Paul’s Lutheran School\, New Ulm High School\, and the University of Minnesota. While attending the University of Minnesota he played Division One baseball for the Gophers\, where he went on to win Co-Big Ten Player of the Year as a third basemen. Steinbach was then drafted by the Oakland Athletics in the 1983 MLB draft and converted to the catcher position where he made quick progress to the majors. He made his major league debut in 1986. His awards kept coming when he won\, as starting catcher for the Oakland A’s\, the MLB All Star Game MVP in 1988 and the World Series in 1989. He continued playing with the A’s until 1997\, when he came home to play for the Minnesota Twins for the last three years of his career. Most recently Steinbach served as bench coach for the Minnesota Twins during the 2013 and 2014 seasons\, serving as acting manager during games which the manager could not attend. \n
