Biography

Professor of Music

Grace Hennig serves as a music professor and keyboard instruction coordinator at Martin Luther College. She has taught Sight Singing Fundamentals, Vocal Skills, Women’s Choir, Introduction to Fine Arts, Music History, Music in World Cultures, Musical Heritage of the Lutheran Church, Teaching Music in the Elementary Grades, and music theory courses. She also advises MLC’s student Composing and Conducting Club.

Previously Grace served as a teacher at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Downers Grove, IL, and as tutor at Michigan Lutheran Seminary. She was a parish musician at King of Kings Lutheran Church in Garden Grove, CA, and at Emanuel Lutheran Church in New London, WI.

Grace has served on committees for Christian Worship: Supplement, and Christian Worship: Psalter, and presented at various conferences on topics related to music education and worship. She also serves on the task force for the Lutheran Institute of Music Education (LIME – welsmusiced.org). Her hymn and psalm settings appear in Christian Worship: Supplement (2008), Christian Worship: Psalter (2021), Christian Worship: Hymnal (2021) and Lift Up Your Hearts (2013). She has published compositions through GIA and Northwestern Publishing House.

An advocate for arts organizations, Grace helped establish the Summit Avenue Music Series, the MLC Visiting Composer program, and served on the board of The Grand Center for Arts and Culture in New Ulm.

Grace received training in teaching and music at Bethany Lutheran College, Dr. Martin Luther College, Concordia University-Chicago, and UW-Oshkosh.
