SUMMARY:Wind Symphony Concert
DESCRIPTION:The Martin Luther College Wind Symphony invites you to attend its upcoming concert\, “Music of The American West\,” on Saturday\, April 13 at 7:30 pm in the MLC Auditorium. The program will open with “Grand Canyon Fanfare” from the theatrical score of the 1991 movie Grand Canyon\, composed by James Newton Howard. Other works on the program include “Ghost Train” by Eric Whitacre\, a programmatic work that helps the listener envision an eerie ghost train that might be found in an abandoned old west mining town. “American Elegy” was written by Frank Ticheli as a remembrance to those students whose lives were claimed by the Columbine High School tragedy.  John Mackey’s “Hymn to a Blue Hour” captures the essence of a late summer evening that can only be found in the wide open skies of the west. “El Camino Real” (literally\, “the royal road”) is a composition by Alfred Reed that takes its inspiration from the real-life road that connected 21 Spanish missions California established between 1683-1834. \nConnected with this concert is the Jr. Knights Band Festival\, which brings together young musicians from WELS grade schools in and around the New Ulm area. These students will perform side-by-side with their college counterparts. We look forward to seeing you there! \n
