Volleyball Wins Two on Day One at UW-Oshkosh
OSHKOSH, Wis.- The Martin Luther College volleyball team swept the first day at the Pizza Hut Classic hosted by UW-Oshkosh, defeating Concordia (Wis.) 3-0 and St. Norbert 3-2
The Knights controlled the match against Concordia from the start, winning in three sets by the scores of 25-18, 25-20 and 26-24.
Rebecca Engelbrecht led an MLC attack that hit .259 for the match, finishing with a match-high 14 kills. Kayla Schoeneck had eight kills against only one error on the way to an attack percentage of .389 in the match, while Heather Danell also had seven kills against just one error.
Miranda Maasz led MLC with 35 assists, while MacCartney Mendolla and Engelbrecht each had seven digs to lead the Knights.
The Knights had to come from behind against St. Norbert, winning in five sets by the scores of 17-25, 21-25, 25-15, 25-18 and 15-13.
After losing the first two sets, the Knights rolled in the next two to force a fifth and deciding set, which they would win in close fashion.
Engelbrecht once again led the attack, finishing with 21 kills on 54 attempts. Leah Nass added 12 kills to go with three service aces, while Maasz led the Knights with 45 assists. Alex Anthon led MLC with 13 digs.
MLC improved to 5-5 on the season with the two victories, and will return to action for day two of the tournament at UW-Oshkosh with a match at 10 a.m. against Ripon.
