Volleyball Tops Cougars in Four
MORRIS, Minn. - The MLC volleyball team won the first two sets and hung on for the fourth in a 3-1 win at UM-Morris Saturday by the scores of 25-18, 25-21, 18-25 and 25-22.
MLC won the first two sets without much resistance, but a late rally by the Cougars in the third set force the match into a fourth game.
After taking a 20-15 lead late in the fourth set, the Cougars stormed back to bring cut the MLC lead to 22-21, but hung on for the win by scoring three of the final four points.
Rachel Hein had 12 kills and hit .375 in the match, while Rebecca Engelbrecht also finished with 12 kills. Emily Boldt had nine kills against only one error, and also finished with six total blocks.
Miranda Maasz had a match-high 39 assists and added two service aces, while Jennifer Draeger and Engelbrecht tied for a team-high 15 digs.
The win was the third in a row for MLC, and improved the Knights to 11-10 on the season and 5-2 in the UMAC. UMM dropped to 12-6 on the season and 4-3 in league play.
MLC will return to action on Tuesday, October 11, when it hosts North Central for a non-conference match-up set to begin at 7 p.m.
