Volleyball Sweeps Final Day at UW-Oshkosh
OSHKOSH, Wis. - The MLC volleyball team won both its matches Saturday at the UW-Oshkosh Pizza Hut Classic, beating Concordia University-Wisconsin 3-0, and then topping Lawrence 3-1.
In the first match, the Knights ran through Concordia in three games by the scores of 25-19, 25-6 and 25-18.
Rebecca Engelbrecht led the team with 11 kills and added eight digs, while Jenn Draeger also finished with eight digs. Miranda Maasz had a team-best 23 assists, and Rachel Hein led the front row defense with five blocks.
The Knights loss the first game to Lawrence, but won the next three to win the match in four by the scores of 24-26, 25-18, 25-16 and 25-18.
Maasz had 40 assists in the match, setting up both Hein and Engelbrecht with 13 kills. Engelbrecht also added 15 digs, while back row players Alex Anthon and Jennifer Draeger had 20 and 15 digs, respectively.
Maasz and Enbelbrecht were both named to the All-Tournament team for their performances, helping the Knights finish the two-day event with a record of 3-1.
With the two wins, MLC improved to 5-7 on the season. The Knights will close the non-conference portion of the schedule on Tuesday, September 18, when they play at Macalester in a match scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
