Volleyball Loses in Five to Eagles

NEW ULM, Minn. - The MLC volleyball team won the first set, and then the fourth, but were unable to beat Northwestern Saturday afternoon in a five game match by the scores of 24-26, 25-20, 25-14, 20-25, 15-9.

The MLC offense featured four players in double figures in kills, with Rebecca Engelbrecht leading the way with 14. Jaime Eternick added 11, while Emily Boldt and Rachel Hein each had ten.

Mackenzie Krentz had a team-best 43 assists, and also added eight digs, two kills and three blocks. Renee Peters finished with a team-high 22 digs and two service aces.

The Knights took the first game building a big lead at 16-7 before battling hard to win it in the end. After losing the second and third games, the Knights used a hot start in the fourth to send the game to a fifth and final set.

In the final game, the Eagles broke up a 9-9 tie by scoring the final six points, giving them the win.

With the loss, MLC dropped to 8-7 overall and 1-1 in the UMAC, while Northwestern improved to 7-9 on the year and 2-0 in league play.

MLC will return to action next weekend, when they travel to Northland for a 7 p.m. game on Friday, October 1.
