Volleyball Falls in Four at UNW
ST. PAUL - The Martin Luther College volleyball team was unable to come back after losing the first two sets in a 3-1 loss at Northwestern Saturday afternoon by the scores of 25-23, 25-13, 23-25, 25-20
The Knights had a chance to win the first set after jumping out to a 20-15 lead, but the Eagles rallied to win ten of the final 13 points to take the 1-0 edge.
After a 25-13 second-set loss, the Knights recovered to win the third, but were unable to overcome an early UNW lead in the fourth set in the loss.
The Knights had a difficult time throughout the match hitting against the UNW blockers, as the Eagles finished with 18.0 blocks. The Knights were also strong in that area with 11.0 in the match, led by six from Morgan Kumbier and five (including two solo blocks) from Heather Danell.
Rebecca Engelbrecht finished with a match-high 19 kills, and both Danell and Kayla Schoeneck added eight kills. Miranda Maasz finished with 42 assists, 14 digs and five kills, while Alex Anthon had a team-best 18 digs.
MLC dropped to 13-10 overall and 6-3 in the UMAC in defeat, while UNW improved to 15-11 on the season and 8-1 in league play with the win.
MLC will return to action on Friday, October 25, when it hosts Crown for a match scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
