Volleyball Clinches Tourney Spot with Win
MANKATO, Minn. - The MLC volleyball team lost the first two sets at Bethany Wednesday, but rallied to win the match in five sets by the scores of 22-25, 23-25, 25-23, 25-18 and 16-14 to clinch a spot in the UMAC Postseason Tournament.
The Knights lost a pair of sets early, but continued to battle, taking a close third set and then finishing the fourth set in strong fashion to force the final set.
The fifth set went back and forth, with the Knights takings several leads and the Vikings coming back to tie the score, but two kills from Katelyn Hauf down the stretch capped off the win for the Knights.
Emily Boldt and Rebecca Engelbrecht each had big days for the Knights. Engelbrecht finished with 18 kills and a hitting percentage of .316, while also adding ten digs. Boldt hit .457 for the match and finished with 17 kills, while also adding six blocks. Hauf finished with 12 kills and six blocks.
Miranda Maasz led the Knights with 48 assists and 14 digs on the night.
With the win, MLC improved to 15-12 overall and 8-4 in the UMAC, while Bethany dropped to 9-17 on the season and 5-7 in league play.
The Knights entered tonight's match with a two-game lead over Bethany for one of the final two spots in the postseason conference tournament, and still has a battle with UM-Morris to reach as high as third in the standings. The Knights have now qualified for the postseason conference tournament in three of the past four years.
MLC will return to action on Friday, October 28, when it hosts UM-Morris for a 7 p.m. match.
