Volleyball sweeps NCU
MINNEAPOLIS - The Martin Luther College volleyball team won for the fifth time in six matches Friday night, defeating North Central 3-0 by the scores of 25-15, 25-7 and 25-18.
The Knights won the final eight points of the first set, and then used an 8-0 run start the second to take a 2-0 lead in the match. After a back-and-forth start to the third set, the Knights finished off the sweep by taking the final set 25-18.
Rebecca Engelbrecht helped the Knights get off the strong start with nine kills in the first two sets. Morgan Kumbier and Kayla Schoeneck also had strong nights with 12 and eight kills, respectively, while Kumbier also led the Knights with five blocks.
Miranda Maasz had another strong night at setter, leading the team in assists (31) while also adding eight digs. Alex Anthon led the team with 12 digs and also had two service aces.
MLC improved to 13-9 on the season and 6-2 in the UMAC with the win, while NCU dropped to 5-19 overall and 1-7 in league play with the loss.
The Knights will return to action tomorrow (Saturday, October 19) when they travel to Northwestern. The match was chosen as this week's UMAC Game of the Week.
