Knights Defeat Vikings in Three
NEW ULM, Minn. - The Martin Luther College volleyball team defeated a tough Bethany Lutheran team Wednesday 3-0 by the scores of 25-22, 25-15 and 30-28.
The Knights were unable to shake free of the Vikings for much of the match, but came through with the big points in the first and third games to secure the three-set win.
MLC finished the match hitting .252, with Rebecca Engelbrecht and Kayla Schoeneck leading the team in kills with 14 and 13, respectively, while Heather Danell finished with an attack efficiency of .471 with eight kills in 17 attempts.
The Knights scrambled well defensively throughout the match, as Engelbrecht and Alex Anthon led the team with 17 and 15 digs, respectively. Miranda Maasz finished with a match-high 30 assists, and continued to stuff the stat sheet in other categories with four kills, two service aces, 11 digs and four blocks. Danell also added four blocks for the Knights, who finished with seven in the match.
MLC improved to 11-8 on the season and 5-2 in UMAC play with the win, while BLC dropped to 4-16 overall and 3-4 in conference action.
The Knights will return to action tomorrow (Thursday, October 10) when they travel to Buena Vista for a match scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
