Knights Clinch Third Place with Win over UMM
NEW ULM, Minn. - The MLC volleyball team clinched the third seed in the UMAC Postseason Tournament with a four-set win over UM-Morris by the scores of 28-26, 25-13, 16-25 and 25-17.
The Knights had a to battle for the first set before winning it 28-26, and then cruised in the second set, hitting .361 with 13 kills against zero errors to take a 2-0 lead.
The Cougars fought back to force a third set, but the Knights built a lead early in the fourth set and pulled away to take the match.
The Knights hit .214 for the match, with Rebecca Engelbrecht leading the way with 16 kills. Rachel Hein and Emily Boldt had 12 and 11 kills, respectively, with Boldt hitting .310 for the match, while Hein added seven blocks.
MLC finished with 11 blocks, and also had strong performances in a back row led by Jennifer Draeger with 21 digs. Miranda Maasz had 16 digs to go along with 40 assists, while Alex Anthon added 13 digs.
With the win, MLC improved to 16-12 overall and 9-4 in the UMAC, while UMM dropped to 16-12 overall and 7-6 in league play.
MLC will finish the regular season tomorrow (Saturday, October 29) when it hosts Presentation and Waldorf for a triangular starting at 11 a.m.
