Eagles End Knights' Four Match Win Streak
NEW ULM, Minn. - The MLC volleyball team saw its four match winning streak snapped at the hands of conference leader Northwestern, which beat the Knights in three sets Friday by the scores of 25-20, 25-20 and 25-23.
The teams entered the match as the top two blocking teams in the UMAC, but both teams hit well in the match. The Eagles hit .310 in the match, while MLC hit .226.
The Eagles hit .433 in the first set on the way to taking a 1-0 lead, and then used a late run to take the second set.
In the final set, the Eagles took control in the middle of the set, and then held off a late MLC rally to finish the sweep.
Rebecca Engelbrecht finished with a team-high 15 kills and hit .423 for the match, while Emily Boldt added eight kills and five blocks. Miranda Maasz led the team with 28 assists, while Elizabeth Loersch had three service aces for MLC.
With the loss, MLC dropped to 12-11 overall and 5-3 in the UMAC, while NWC improved to 20-2 on the season and 8-0 in league play.
MLC will return to the court tomorrow (Saturday, October 15), when it hosts Crown for a 1 p.m. match.
