FRIDLEY, Minn. - The Martin Luther College women's tennis team picked up an important conference win Monday when it defeated Bethany Lutheran College 6-3 at Lifetime Fitness Center.

Charis Goelzer won her singles and doubles matches against BLC


MLC started the match by taking two of the three points in doubles. The number two team of Charis Goelzer and Mateja Epple won their match 8-5, while Nicole Wood and Melissa Stibb teamed together to win the number three match 9-8 in a tie-breaker.

The Knights showed off their superior depth in the singles competition, losing in the first two spots but winning each of the final four matches. Holly Marquardt won her match in the number three spot in three sets, and Goelzer, Elizabeth Broring and Bekah Johnston each won in straight sets to secure the team win for MLC.

MLC improved to 3-8 this season and 3-6 in the UMAC with the win, while BLC fell to 2-18 overall and 2-8 in league play in defeat.

The Knights will close the regular season with a match against North Central on Wednesday, April 30, at Lifetime Fitness Center.
