Women Go Far in Doubles Tournament

MINNEAPOLIS - The MLC women's tennis team had two pairs reach the Championship Round of the UMAC Tournament Friday night.

Michelle Hintz and Lauren Gross made it to the final round in the flight three doubles tournament


In the first flight, the team of Rachel Niemi (La Crosse, Wis./Luther) and Karina Luthra (Simpsonville, S.C./LPS) won their first two matches by the scores of 9-7 and 8-6, but lost in the final round 8-3 to St. Scholastica.

Lauren Gross (Oconomowoc, Wis./LPS) and Michelle Hintz (Franklin, Tenn./Independence HS) also made the final round in the third flight, winning 8-1 in round one and 9-8 in round two, but lost 8-0 in the finals.

In flight two, Heidi Heckmann (Lake Mills, Wis./LPS) and Carol Niemi (La Crosse, Wis./Luther) were unable to make it past the first round, losing 8-5 to the team from Bethany.

The UMAC Tournament will continue tomorrow (Saturday, May 8) at the Baseline Tennis Center with the final rounds of singles action.
