ABERDEEN, S.D. - Karla Opperman hit two big home runs to help MLC win two games at the UMAC crossover at Presentation Monday, beating UM-Morris 6-5 in game one, and then Presentation 6-4 in game two.
The Cougars scored five runs in the first three innings to take an early lead, but a three-run fifth inning from MLC pushed the Knights to a 6-5 win.
Opperman had a big day at the plate for the Knights, going 2-3 with a double and three-run home run. Stephanie Punke and Sarah Free drove in MLC's other three runs.
On the mound, Laura Miller went all seven innings for MLC, striking out two as she improved to 5-8 on the season.
Opperman hit a walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the seventh inning to push MLC past Presentation 6-4 in game two.
The Knights trailed 4-1 in the seventh inning, but staged a two-out rally that saw five straight batters reach base. Katie Kretsch, Amber Krause and Amanda Fogle started the rally with three straight singles, and Andrea Biedenbender extended it by getting hit by a pitch to set up Opperman's home run.
Miller picked up her second win of the day on the mound for the Knights, allowing four runs (all earned) on 12 hits to improve to 6-8 on the season.
With the two wins, MLC improved to 8-16 overall and 5-8 in league play.
The Knights will return to the diamond in Aberdeen tomorrow (Tuesday, April 26) when they play a double header against Presentation. Game one is scheduled to start at 12 p.m.
