Softball Swept by Cougars
NEW ULM, Minn. - The MLC softball team was unable to come up with a win in the first home double header of the season, losing by the scores of 10-2 and 4-0 to Minnesota-Morris Tuesday.
UMM broke open a one-run game in the top of the fifth inning by scoring seven runs to beat MLC 10-2 in five innings.
The Knights committed three errors in the fifth inning, and four errors in the game. Laura Miller pitched all five innings, allowing ten runs, with only three of them earned. Miller dropped to 1-5 on the season with the loss.
The Cougars also outhit the Knights 11-2 for the game. Amber Krause had both hits for MLC.
MLC was unable to get anything going offensively in a 4-0 loss to UMM in game two.
The Cougars finished with 12 hits off MLC starter Sarah Free, who went all seven innings on the mound for the Knights. With the loss, Free dropped to 2-6 on the season.
At the plate, the Knights were only able to muster four hits themselves. Katie Kretsch, Andrea Biedenbender, Stephanie Punke and Free had the hits for MLC.
With the two losses, MLC dropped to 3-11 on the season and 0-3 in conference play, while UMM improved to 6-12 overall and 3-2 in the UMAC.
MLC will return to the diamond on Friday, April 15, when it hosts St. Scholastica for a double header set to start at 3 p.m.
