Softball Swept at Morris
MORRIS, Minn. - The MLC softball team lost a pair of games in double header at UM-Morris Wednesday, losing game one 9-3 and game two 6-4.
Two big innings by the Cougars doomed the Knights in game one, as UMM scored three in the first and four more in the fourth to take a commanding lead they would hold for a 9-3 win.
Sarah Free (Plover, Wis./LPS) got the start and the loss for MLC on the mound, pitching all six innings and allowing six earned runs on 13 hits.
UMM outhit MLC 13-9 for the game, but also took advantage of six MLC errors in the game.
Brittany Jensen (Hortonville, Wis./FVL) hit a home run for MLC in the loss, while Karla Opperman (North Branch, Mich./North Branch HS) had two hits and two RBI.
MLC cut a 5-1 deficit to one run with a three-run fifth inning in game two, but it was unable to come all the way back in a 6-4 loss to UMM in game two.
The Knights scored those three runs on a passed ball, and then by RBI hits by Amber Krause (Watertown, Wis./LPS) and Jessica Henning (Redwood Falls, Minn./Redwood Valley HS).
Laura Miller (Kent, Wash./Evergreen) got the start and took the loss for MLC, allowing ten hits and six runs in six innings
The Cougars outhit the Knights 10-9 in game two, with April Cook (Menomonee Falls, Wis./KMLHS) and Opperman each getting two hits for MLC.
With the two losses, MLC dropped to 7-10 overall and 1-4 in the UMAC. The Knights will return to the field on Friday, April 16, when they host Northland for a double header starting at 3 p.m.
