Softball Splits First Crossover

MANKATO, Minn. - The MLC softball team split it's first crossover double header of the season at Bethany Monday afternoon, losing its first game 11-6 to UM-Morris, but beating Presentation 17-1 in game two.

MLC fell behind 7-0 in the first three innings and couldn't come all the way back in a 11-6 loss in the first game of the day.

Sarah Free (Plover, Wis./LPS) got the start on the mound and dropped to 4-5 on the season with the loss. Free allowed all 11 runs (eight earned) on 19 hits in seven innings.

After UMM scored the first seven runs, MLC tried to come back, scoring two in the fourth and one in the fifth to cut the deficit to 7-3, but a four-run sixth inning by the Cougars spelled the end of the MLC rally.

Amber Krause (Mequon, Wis./LPS) led the Knights with three hits, two runs scored and two RBI, while Jessica Henning (Redwood Falls, Minn./Redwood Valley HS), Brittany Jensen (Hortonville, Wis./FVL) and Free each had two hits.

MLC rode an 11-run third inning to beat Presentation 17-1 in five innings in the second game of the crossover.

Heather Korb (Indianapolis, Ind./Lutheran HS) got the start and the win on the mound for MLC, improving to 4-6 on the season. She went five innings and allowed one run on five hits while striking out five.

At the plate, Free and Jensen both hit home runs in the game, while Korb led the Knights with four hits and four runs. The home run was Jensen's fifth on the season, while Free's was number two.

MLC outhit the Saints 18-5 for the game, and eight of the Knights' nine starters in the line-up picked up at least one hit.

With the split, MLC moved to 12-15 overall and 6-9 in league action. MLC will return to action tomorrow (Tuesday, April 27), when it hosts North Central for a double header beginning at 4 p.m.
