Softball Splits Final Two UMAC Games
ASHLAND, Wis. - The MLC softball split its final two conference games of the season Saturday at the UMAC crossover held at Northland, beating Crown 10-0 before losing 10-2 to Northwestern.
Emily Waldek got the start for MLC and threw her first career shutout in a 10-0 win over Crown in game one.
Waldek allowed zero runs on four hits while striking out three to improve to 1-0 on the season.
At the plate, the Knights supported her with at least one run in each of the first four innings, and outhitting Crown 9-4 for the game.
MLC jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Katie Scherer drove in Madeline Scott, and then scored four more times in the second with the help of a three-run single by Sarah Free.
After a two-run third inning, the Knights finished the scoring with three runs in the fourth inning on a three-run home run by Jessica Henning to push the lead to the final margin of 10-0.
MLC lost its final conference game of the season by the score of 10-2 to Northwestern.
With the split, MLC is now 9-21 on the season, and finished the UMAC season with a record of 8-13.
The Knights will return to action on Monday, April 30, when they host St. Catherine for a double header scheduled to start at 4 p.m.
