Softball Loses Two at UMAC Crossover
NEW ULM, Minn. - The MLC softball team suffered a hit to its postseason conference tournament chances with a pair of losses at the UMAC crossover Tuesday. The Knights lost 5-0 to UM-Morris, and then 6-4 to Presentation.
MLC was held to three hits in a game one loss to UM-Morris by the score of 5-0.
Laura Miller got the start for MLC on the mound and kept MLC in the game, allowing five runs on 12 hits in seven innings, but the bats just never came to life for the Knights to get back in the game.
The Cougars jumped out to an early lead with one run in each of the first two innings, and then tacked on three insurance runs in the fourth and sixth innings to make the final margin of victory.
Katie Scherer, Karla Opperman and Emily Waldek had the three hits for the Knights.
Presentation jumped out to a 6-0 lead and hung on for a 6-4 win over the Knights in game two of the crossover event at MLC.
Sarah Free pitched the first four innings for the Knights, allowing all six runs (two earned) on seven hits as she fell to 2-6 on the season.
MLC outhit the Saints 10-8 in the game, with Waldek and MacCartney Mendolla each finishing with three hits. Madeline Scott, Scherer and Mendolla accounted for the runs batted in by the Knights.
With the two losses, MLC dropped to 8-15 on the overall and 7-9 in the UMAC.
The Knights will return to action on Friday, April 27, when they travel to Northland for the second part of the UMAC crossover. The team's first game will be at 2 p.m. against Northland.
