Softball Wins One of Three at Crossover

MANKATO, Minn. - The MLC softball team lost 10-2 to St. Scholastica and 11-8 to Northland before beating Crown 15-1 on day one of the UMAC crossover at Bethany Friday.

MLC took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning, but St. Scholastica came back to win 10-2 in five innings.

Sarah Free and Katie Krestch each homered for MLC in the first inning to give the Knights an early 2-0 lead, but CSS came back to score ten off MLC starter Laura Miller.

Miller dropped to 7-10 on the season after allowing all ten runs (eight earned) on on ten hits.

At the plate, Free finished with two of the Knights' four hits.


An eight-run third inning for Northland was the difference as the Lumberjills beat MLC 11-8.

MLC took a 3-0 lead in the top of the second inning on a home run from Alison Filter, which held until the bottom half of the third, when Northland scored eight runs on eight hits and one error.

Kretsch hit her second home run of the day later in the game, but the Knights were not able to get enough going with the bats.

Miller got the start on the mound and dropped to 7-11 with the loss, going 2.2 innings and allowing seven runs (six earned) on seven hits.

Eight of MLC's nine starters had at least one hit in a 15-1 win over Crown.

MLC scored five times in the first inning, and scored in each of the first four on the way to the five-inning win.

MLC finished with 15 hits, led by three from Amber Krause. Megan Zamzow finished with a team-best four runs batted in.

After the three games, MLC moved to 10-21 overall and 7-13 in UMAC play.

The Knights will return to action on day two of the UMAC crossover games at Bethany when they play Northwestern at 10 a.m.
